YTB scam Part II

Scam If you are like me, as soon as you heard about YTB, you rushed to Google to type in YTB scam. Then, you were fortunate enough to find entire boards dedicated to telling you why YTB is a scam. Heck, the boards are even dedicated solely to telling people about scams so they must be legit, right?

Wrong.

Besides the stray person such as myself trying to infuse a bit of reality into the posts, the authors in the forum are typically two kinds of people:

1. Representatives from competing companies

2. People who despise MLM and all things Network Marketing

Neither one of these two types is looking out for your best interest. Here's why:

Type 1. Representatives from competing companies
These people have one thing on their mind and one thing only- to get you into their business at any cost. They'll trash talk all competitors of their company, and say whatever it takes to get you to join their business over their competitor- even by fudging the facts. They'll throw out fancy figures and technical terms, and make you think that they are legit, but if you do the slightest bit of due diligence, you'll discover that more often than not, the YTB scam they are preaching about just isn't true.

Believe me, you do NOT want to get into business with these folks. As a person with a degree in advertising, I can tell you that psychological studies have shown that negative campaigns are not effective marketing tools. Plus, they've just shown you how it is that they do business- maliciously bash the competition. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't sign up for that style of marketing.

Honest, ethical business owners don't market their business by talking badly about their competition. Don't get me wrong, they will make comparisons and distinguish themselves from the competition, which is fine, but they never degrade the competition.

When was the last time you heard a McDonald's commercial telling you that Wendy's was going bankrupt, that Wendy's corporate leadership was a bunch of crooks, and that you better get to McDonald's as fast as you can? Oh, you didn't hear them say that?

Well, I just read those comments pretty much verbatim on a message boards written by a rep from a competitor of YTB. This is why you should be wary before putting your faith in these posts. You need to research the YTB opportunity for yourself to determine if the business is right for you.

The second type of people you encounter on message boards are the MLM-haters. These people are of the opinion that MLMs are only out to take advantage of people, and that they prey on unsuspecting victims.

Pull back the fluff, and look at what these people are truly saying, which is: People are too stupid to make up their own mind about what to do with their money. People shouldn't be allowed to make their own decisions, because they aren't intelligent enough to make the proper decision on how to spend their time and money.

I've actually read this same philosophy in my college political science classes...
when I was studying the works of the most famous socialist out there- the Father of Communism, Karl Marx, who believed that the people are too stupid to determine how to spend their money or make decisions, so the all knowing government must step in to help them.

The real reason why people fail in this business is not that it is a scam, rather it is because they have unrealistic expectations about what it takes to actually build a business, and/or they do not have sufficient time or money to properly build a business. I don't care what anyone else tells you: to make money, you need money. Period. There isn't such a thing as a free lunch. If someone tells you to join their business because it's free, easy, and they'll build the business for you...run for the hills...fast.

If it is so easy, and they build the business for you, why do they need you? Better yet, why would they need to PAY you? Not a legitimate opportunity, so move on.

In short, YTB is not a scam. It offers entrepreneurs a legitimate business without the exorbitant start-up costs inherent in a brick and mortar travel business.

People like to say that the YTB scam is that the company focuses on representative sign-up fees. This is not the case. In fact, as an Independent Marketing Rep (Rep) you can sign up with YTB for free and start selling travel stores. YTB is in the business of selling travel, and the way we do that is by setting up thousands (102,000 to be exact) travel stores, and have 102,000 people referring their family, friends and coworkers to their travel website.

YTB is no scam. I was making travel commissions my first month. It was that easy. YTB is a legitimate home based business opportunity.

Okay, it's the end of February 08--how's your business going? I'm asking, because I just got prospected for this biz, and I saw zero potential for any income.

"These people have one thing on their mind and one thing only- to get you into their business at any cost."

A quick glance at the article reveals that key phrases have been carefully chosen so that it ranks favorably in search engines. Presumably to lead people how search "YTB scam" away from the detractors.

This article was posted July 2007. No other blog post can be found. All links in the side bar points to some referring site. True diligence.

This, of course, means nothing if this article were to be published as subject of critique. Fair use, you see.

People are going to try to make everyone think the way they think even if they are clueless. YTB does not cost that much to join, and it does not cost that much to stay in YTB a month. So, it really is weird how people say that its a scam without even stating the benefits, which are tax benefits, travel deals, and guaranteed money. Yes, YTB guarantees $6,000 for the first year. People who sit at home and try to post negative issues about ever YTB blog, please get a job and a life. If someone cannot afford $50 dollars a month, then they should think about go to college to get a better job. And if you have something to convince me that it is a scam, please email me at vacationerz@gmail.com. I will really want to know your reasoning.

From YTB's 2007 income disclosure:

"The income statistics above are for all active U.S. YTB Reps who were eligible to earn compensation in 2007. An “Active Rep” is defined as Any Rep who received
a check in 2007. The average annual income for all Reps in 2007 was $299.95, and the median annual income for all Reps in 2007 was $97.00. In 2007, 80.92%
of all Reps received no income at all."

Here's a link to the disclosure statement so you can all see for yourself how much income the YTB reps are making a year.

With a start up fee of $499 and monthly fee of $49.99 the only people making money are a select few at the top.

Mark Ewing is a Scam. The real truth is that he wants to sell you a course for $500 in how to become a group travel organizer, well the thing is, YTB has a lot great vendors who can explain to me for free and guide me step by step in the process and will provide me with training on how to market their product.

He will tell you about his free course, when you download it it has a lot of common sence information, but he will get you excited about it, and in the End he will tell you, if you really want to become a professional travel organizer purchase this course this other course for $500.

Now everytime I see his face on YouTube all I see is SCAM! SCAM!

For a company that is so great... you spend such an enormous amout of time defending it.

A good businessman just focuses on his business and ignores his critics.

Perhaps that is precisely why the originating author has not responded or done "true diligence." as you put it. He or She is too busy traveling and being a good Businessperson to bother. You can find fault with any business opportunity. You just have to decide if it fits into your way of doing business and go from there. Who cares what critics think. I'm sure we have all made our fair share of mistakes in investing. If you're going to do something do it completely or not at all.

Have you ever noticed? They never say anything about you if you’re second place, or fourth place, or no place. I have read through the attacks on my fine company YTB-Your Travel Biz. These are folks from other travel companies, who appear to have become experts in YTB Travel.

There are two types of network marketers. There are those who understand the true meaning of giving value and building a relationship with their prospect before they even consider hitting them with a sales pitch and then there are those I call desperate network marketers.

How do desperate network marketers act with prospect?

They start with a sales pitch about their company, their products and themselves.

"Our company is better than YTB, our compensation plan is much better than YTB. Our product will change your life and you need to be on them, your family needs to be on them in fact, everyone you know needs to be on them, but it needs to be my company, it can't be YTB, because my company is better than YTB. YTB is being sued by the California A G. My company, me, me, me, me, me, me, me."

The truth is, the prospect will have switched off after 20 seconds and will not want to hear from you again. They would just be looking for a way to make you disappear. Our desperate network marketer has killed any chance of working with this prospect.

What did they do wrong? They led with themselves, their company and their products. They should have led with the prospect. Plus, they've just shown how it is that they do business-maliciously bashing the competition. I can tell you that psychological studies have shown that negative campaigns are not effective marketing tools. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't sign up for that style of marketing. Honest, ethical business owners don't market their business by talking badly about their competition. Never try to run another company down by saying yours is better. This is not only self-defeating but you appear to be unethical in your profession as a network marketer.

By acting like a desperate network marketer, you would only pull prospects away from you and your MLM.

What do they need to learn? They need to learn the attraction marketing techniques!

By learning and implementing the attraction marketing techniques you will drive prospects to you so you can spend more time working from a posture of strength instead of I need you position.

YTB is not a scam. And it's not a MLM. It's a travel company that relies on network marketing. It's a company that allows individuals to work from home and earn extra money.

Apparently YTB has admitted to being a scam - they have been curtailed from carrying on most business in the State of California - and agreed to that in a settlement last week. The very next day, the State of Illinois filed suit. AND the stock has dropped to $0.15 a share!

YTB is a scam all right. RTAs paid 8 million to YTB in the 1st quarter of this year and received 1.8 million back in travel 'commissions'. That a great investment isn't it? If you like losing money and keeping the 3 people at the top rolling in dough, by all means join and do your part for Coach.
